Soviet WW2 Excellent Railroad Traffic Controller award badge, 1940s-50s issue.

Made in Brass and high quality Hot-Baked Enamels; measures 40.2 x 26.0 mm. A very attractive and well-made piece of typical Soviet quality of the period. The Excellent Traffic Controller was one of several badges of the so-called railway proficiency series. These badges were introduced during the war, in 1942 and were essentially medals for outstanding performance, often under enemy fire. They were hard to earn and their recipients would have various privileges for life!

The badge is in SUPERB condition, especially for a WW2 era award! The enamel is extremely well preserved, free of any of the usual chips, hairline cracks, flaking or significant scratches. There are only some occasional tiny contact marks practically unnoticeable to the naked eye and some minimal surface rubbing, but the enamel still retains beautiful high quality luster. All the enamel on this piece is 100% ORIGINAL: there are no enamel repairs. Raised details of the artwork are perfect and crisp. The screw post is original, of full length (nearly 12.5 mm) and has not been repaired. The screw plate is a replacement but it fits the screw perfectly.

This interesting and uncommon Soviet award can be an equally nice addition to either a Russian medal collection or railroad memorabilia collection.
