Holt Howard Ferdinand the Bull mug and Munro Leaf childrens book different gift for high quality child Vintage Christmas MCM midcentury
Are you looking for something to give a child that is not another electronic game or superhero figurine?
I fell in love with this 1964 Holt Howard mug—don't know if it was officially called the Ferdinand mug, but it certainly is channeling the famous bull from high quality the book by Munroe Leaf. I like to give gifts to children that have meaning and that are not as transient as many toys…both the mug and book will delight a small child. And you get to start them early in their appreciation of Holt Howard :-)
I gave this to a 6 year old this past Christmas and she was fascinated with the mug and felt like she got a big girl's gift…she was familiar with the book and now has her own.
The Ferdinand mug is adorable, he has a flower in his mouth, blue horns and, my favorite part, his tail is the handle. The tuft of black on the end is simply too cute.
The book is a new paperback—perhaps I don't know where to find the year that this one was actually reprinted.
No chips cracks repair; just a couple of small places of paint loss… although they look like it could be uneven coverage during manufacturing. Stamped Holt Howard 1963.
The mug and book come in a new, white gift box and is gift wrapped in my shop wrap—Brown kraft paper with red and white candycane bakers twine and a tiny bottlebrush tree. The picture at the top of my shop is my shop wrap.
The mug is almost 3 3/4 inches high; the book measures 9” x 7 1/2”.
