This Lovely Victorian Wood And Celluloid Box was made to store a Lady's grooming and sewing items. It was meant to be used for Travel or on a dresser/vanity.

This Box is made of Wood covered with Hand Painted Celluloid in Pale Blue and Pink. high quality The Outside of the Box Lid is Beautifully accented with Red Burnout Velvet bordered with Raised Relief Carved Celluloid Flowers and Beading. In the Center of the Velvet is a Lovely Hand Painted Portrait of a Bouquet of Purple and White Flowers and Green Stems and Leaves under Clear Celluloid Framed in an Oval Gold Tone Beaded Metal Frame. The Hinged Lid has a Working Gold Tone Repousse Victorian Shell Metal Latch.
Inside the Box is Lined in Pleated Gold Silk. The Inside Lid has a Beveled Glass Mirror inside a Gold Frame. This is definitely a much newer mirror and frame added by the previous owner.
The Inside Bottom of the Box has a Gold Silk Covered Strip that is attached vertically across the box and has Gold Silk Covered Fabric Loops meant to hold sewing and small grooming tools. The Strip on this box has come detached at the top, but is still attached at the bottom.

The Underside of the Box is covered with Black paper and has a paper tag that has letters and numbers written on it. I'm sure this was also added by the previous owner, but I've left it on because removing it may rip the black paper.

Condition"
Good with cracks and lifting to Celluloid. Patina and plating loss to latch and hinges. Patina to metal frame around flower portrait. Slight scratches to celluloid on flower portrait. Slight discoloration to burn out velvet. Stains, marks, soiling, and discoloration to interior silk lining. As stated above interior strip for sewing and vanity tools is detached on one end. To me these flaws are expected due to age and use and also give the piece charm and authenticity. But PLEASE Be Sure You Agree BEFORE You Purchase.
