Antique Dog Carving, Burl high quality Wood

This is a folk art figure of a dog carved from a hard, polished piece of burl. The wood is as hard as rock, so I can't imagine actually carving it. The patina is quite smooth and worn. There are some small cracks in the wood from shrinkage and three of the feet have a small nail in them to level him. There are some darker areas that look like paint but are actually just variations in the color of the wood. He measures 5" tall and 7" long. high quality
