What are freshwater pearls?
Freshwater pearls are graded AAA- D based on their lustre, surface quality, colour and size. At Button&Pearl we only use grade A and above unless otherwise specified in a listing or a special request. This accounts for the fluctuation in costs of pearls and allows us to create something for everyone's budget.

Pearls are semi-precious stones but they are also an organic product. They are created when an Oyster ‘attacks' a foreign object and coats it in nacre as a defensive mechanism. This nacre is what gives pearls their shine and unique colours. Pretty clever of mother nature!

Taking care of your pearls
Pearls should be applied after perfume or make up as they can react to chemicals. They should only be cleaned with high quality a cloth and water not jewellery cleaners which are too harsh and will damage the surface of the pearl.
You should store your pearls in a cloth or the box they come in, away from other jewellery which will scratch and damage them. If properly looked after your pearls should never fade or change colour.

Packaging
At Button&Pearl we do our best to be as environmentally friendly as we can. Our products all come in beautiful Navy or natural kraft boxes which are 100% recycled. Unless requested, we may reuse packaging for posting.
