The washerwomen say: "On n'entend pas ce qu'il dit le pauvre 'vieux"
("We can't hear high quality what he says, poor old man"--according to Google translate.)
Very good antique condition - Light patina discoloration, crazing, a few glaze flea bites, a small discolored chip or glaze flake on the right edge, and some scratches on the back. They do not show on the front.
The Sarreguemines Pottery started during the French Revolution in 1790. Napoleon I was a customer in the early 1800s. These character talking plates are found in many museums in France. This rare antique plate would be a perfect addition in a Country French decor house.
