It is so great to find a piece this old, still wearable, and with the label! Homemade clothes were far more common, and I have come across many Edwardian pieces that were expertly homemade. This gem has several small repairs - the patch looks to be period correct. The few other mends seem newer. The fabric is a crisp Cotton Lawn - much like a sheer voile, but with a bit more weight and a slightly more rugged, open weave. It looks delicate, but feels quite sturdy. The pattern in the thread work (not sure what to call what looks like embroidery, but done with regular, thin cotton thread, still making a design with color and patterns) is in ivory, pale blue and a grey. This looks to me like it was a home improvement on a pretty white staple blouse. The stitching is by hand. And, the fabric is really a perfect grid to create needlework on! See the last photo for close-up of the patch and other mend.
I have carefully cleaned this and would recommend gentle hand-washing in a sink, with a gentle soap or detergent. Part of the maintenance and restoration of beautiful antiques and vintage is to keep clean from body oils to preserve longer. I wear vintage every day, and I do recommend treating your older clothes with care to keep them lasting longer!
Shown on my 36-26-36 form with 15" shoulder.
Measurements are of the actual garment, not of a body. When possible to estimate, we will give "best fit" measurements. It is always recommended to have your measurements taken by an experienced tailor. To compare your own garment to that of the shown vintage, do NOT stretch, many older vintage garments have very little stretch or wiggle room. If you are particularly tall or petite, you may want to write for different ratio measurements. I base the ratios of my measurements on my own "average" size, 5'4". When possible, I try on a garment to check where certain hit spots are - such as an under bust on an originally juniors item may be narrower than an average woman's rib cage or under bust, or the shoulder seam placement, as that varies from era to era. Someone who is taller or knows that their torso is longer (or has a fuller bosom) may want to check the shoulder to waist ratio, which is not commonly added.
