high quality Incredibly delicate and pretty antique Appenzell handkerchief from the late 1800's to early 1900's. Ivory linen with a very pale blue embroidery, drawn work and appliqué. This one is a rare treasure.
Outstanding condition with one hard-to-see speck. I have to hold it up to the light to see it. Structurally perfect - appears unused.
10" square.
In the late 1800's and early 1900's the women of Appenzell Switzerland (at the foot of the Alps) had a cottage industry. They created linen masterpieces known as Appenzell embroidery. It's regarded as the finest embroidery in the world due to the intricate, tiny stitching and details. The skill and talent required to create such fine pieces - all by hand - is astonishing.
