BARNABUS grew up in a small Cornish Fishing Village - he's lived there all his life and really doesn't want to move - BUT - he's found himself homeless in the last few days so he's desperate to find someone who is as fond of fishing and the sea as he is - mostly because he's not going anywhere without his three best friends - Baby Shark - and two little seagulls called Tom and Jerry who made a nest in his antique brass fishing bucket and simply refused to leave!
He is wearing typical 'Sailor' clobber which is in fact a jumper and trousers made in the 1970's for an Action Man Doll!! He has a red bandana to keep the sun off and a miniature straw hat strapped to his back for very, very hot days! He's holding a wonderful old 'Cowrie Shell' and a miniature replica jewellery sea horse in one hand - leaving the other hand free to cuddle 'Baby Shark' and lug around his big ancient brass bucket - full of seagulls!!
BARNABUS is 9 inches tall x 4 inches wide (23x10cm) The two Seagulls and Shark are smaller!!!! They all have really strong wire skeletons which make them super flexible and posable and would be really fun to play with - or simply pose on a shelf - looking 'cool'!!
All my animals are entirely handmade and it takes many, many happy hours of loving 'stabbing' with needles and wool to create each little individual character - no two are ever remotely the same - I often feel they make themselves!!!! I prefer to create Naïve, Quirky, Fun little 'Felties' over anything realistic - letting my imagination run wild is such fun!! My sculptures are intended as decorative display items rather than toys, the nature of their construction means they are slightly fragile. I'm afraid they are not suitable for young children. Each little animal is totally unique!!
My 'creatures' have been featured in a 'comic book' article in the June 2018 Arts Issue of Cotswold Life Magazine. Also - a five page feature article in 'Discover Dolls' Magazine in the February 2020 Issue - a copy of which can be seen on my 'Profile' page!!
