Exicator is used to dry material in a laboratory environment
The container consists of two parts: a smaller bottom part, where an amount of desiccant, such as silica gel, sodium hydroxide or calcium chloride, is applied and a larger top high quality part, where the substance to be dried is placed. The separation between the two compartments is usually a porcelain plate with a thickness of about 5 millimeters. There are small holes in this plate to establish contact between both compartments. the porcelain plate is also present.
