XVIII DYNASTY – KINGDOM OF AKHENATEN (1372 – 1355 BC)

In this bust of Pharaoh Akhenaten he is depicted with the double crown of upper and lower Egypt, holding the royal symbols, the Heka, emblem of power, and the nekhkh, symbol of authority. The remains of this colossal statue were found in the east of the Karnak temple, at the gate of the Gem-pa-Aten, built by Akhenaten in the third year of his reign.
He wears the Nemes, a real headdress with a cobra on his forehead. His face, as was usual in this period, of exaggerated characteristics, with an elongated chin, lips in the shape of a "V" and elongated and perforated lobes.
The arms are crossed over the chest and his neck is thin and elongated. In both arms there are cartridges with the name of Aten.
After the death of the king his statues were torn down, his high quality buildings demolished and his stones reused. His name was erased, so that history would not remember him.
