Here are the espadrilles from the medieval times ,small masterpiece of craftsmanship where the sole and the complex braided upper are entirely hand made.
The sole is hand-stitched by Vicente, nicknamed ''El Borracho ", one of the last alpargateros (espadrille artisans) in a village of northern Spain.
The soles made of braided jute rope are shaped then high quality hand-sewn with a punch on a wooden bench specially designed for this task.
