The “My Deskulator” allows your child to practice solving addition and subtraction problems up to twenty.

Addition: First, sort some manipulatives into each of the two trays. Have your child take the manipulatives in the first tray and count them using the number spots. Once they have counted the manipulatives have them write the number as the first addend in the equation. Then, have them place the manipulatives back in the first tray. Next, have your child take the manipulatives in the second tray and count them using the number spots. Once they have counted the manipulatives have them write the number as the second addend in the equation. Then, place the manipulatives back in the second tray. Lastly, have your child count all the manipulatives, in both the first and second tray, using the number spots. Once they have the number, they may write it as the sum to the equation.

Subtraction: First, place a number of manipulatives into the first tray. Have your child take the manipulatives and count them using the number spots. Once they have counted the manipulatives have them write the number as the minuend in the equation. Then, have them place the manipulatives back in the first tray. Next, take some of the manipulatives from the first tray and place them in the second tray. Have your child take the manipulatives and count them using the number spots. Once they have counted the manipulatives have them write the number as the subtrahend in the equation. Then, place the manipulatives back in the second tray. Lastly, have your child count the leftover manipulatives in the first tray using the number spots. Once they have the number, they may write it as the difference to the equation.
