This is a beautiful 14 gram Saffordite that has unique bands of light and dark when backlit. It's translucency is a beautiful warm hue.

These stones originate in Graham County Arizona near Safford, from which the stone high quality gets its name. This harsh desert area was known for the clans of the Apache who roamed freely until the late 1800's.

There are varying theories on what and how these stones were formed. Some believe they are volcanic while others feel that they came from space. I encourage you to do some research and draw your own conclusions, since there is a lot of information available.
