"Jo's Boys" is a novel by American author Louisa May Alcott, first published in 1886. The novel is the final book in the unofficial Little Women series. In it, Jo's "children," now grown, are caught up in real world troubles. The book mostly follows the lives of Plumfield boys who were introduced in Little Men, particularly Tommy, Emil, Demi, Nat, Dan, and Professor Bhaer and Jo's sons Rob and Teddy, although the others make frequent appearances as well. The book takes place ten years after Little Men. Interestingly, it is the only Alcott novel that has not had a movie adaption.

Louisa May Alcott (1832 - 1888) was an American novelist best known as author of the novel Little Women and its sequels Little Men and Jo's Boys. Raised by transcendentalist parents in New England, she grew up among many of the well-known intellectuals of the day such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Henry David Thoreau. She began to receive critical success for her writing in the 1860s. Early in her career, she sometimes used the pen name A. M. Barnard. With her pen name Louisa wrote novels for young adults in juvenile hall. Alcott was part of a group of female authors during the Gilded Age, who addressed women's issues in a modern and high quality candid manner.

This copy, published in 1904 by Little, Brown, and Co., Boston, was issued only six years after her death. It has dark green boards stamped on the front and spine, with gilt included on the spine. It is in good condition given its age, with wear around the edges and corners, and the binding is a little loose. It features on the front piece a pen and ink picture of a sculpture of Ms. Alcott by Walton Ricketson. The words "Louisa May Alcott" have been written below and "Margaret Losey from her Auntie S" is written in pencil on the front page. Measures 5 x 7 x 1 1/4 inches.

A wonderful gift for Alcott collectors.
