Memento Mori club in deeply spalted, worm-eaten maple. Not based on any particular historical weapon but imitating many traditional concepts, it is a unique fantasy item high quality for display, cosplay, or to capture the imagination of anyone with a martial arts interest and curiosity about the obscure clubs that have been designed throughout the centuries.
Carved using wood from a dead tree, the maple is richly colored by the activity of fungi over the years, and cosmetically damaged by worms. But the wood is solid and strong. The ball end is carved in a grotesque, jawless skull swaddled in a head-wrap. The opposite end is blade-shaped for the same reason a sword is blade shaped—the wood is thick in one direction for strength and rigidity, thin in the other direction for lightness, speed, and maneuverability. The handle is elliptical, so you feel the shape in your hand, and can constantly tell without looking what direction the edges of the blade are facing. Has a small hook shape to the end, for catching and controlling an opponent's weapon, or the edges their shield.
Hand-rubbed tung oil finish. A unique display piece, costume item, or functional art.
