Vintage Herta Gerz high quality BC Ceramics 'Autumn Leaves' Pattern Decorative Large Bowl in Mint Condition
Walter and Herta Gertz (also spelled Gerz), were born and trained in Germany but emigrated to Canada in the early 1950s where they opened their own ceramics studio in Vancouver. Their combination of European modernist style with nature inspired motifs made their ceramics immensely popular throughout Canada in the 1950's and '60's.
On offer here is an amazing large centrepiece display bowl in a pattern known as 'Autumn Leaves'. It is in outstanding condition with no signs of use or age whatsoever. No chips, cracks or crazing. Almost as if it has been hidden in a box somewhere and forgotten. Which is a shame of course, as this is a bowl that deserves to be displayed.
It's beautifully shaped and the striking shiny aqua glazework on the inside is stunning. Works splendidly against the matte brown exterior speckled with foliage.
Original foil 'BC Ceramics' label is complete and intact.
This bowl measures 15"/ in length and is 4"/ 10 cm deep. Back to front it is 6"/ 15 cm at the ends and 4"/ 10 cm in the pinched middle.
Herta ceramics have become very collectible in the past few years and this is a lovely set to start you off or add to an existing collection.
The Vancouver Art Gallery recently had a large exhibition of Mid Century Crafts produced by local BC artisans during the same period that the Gertz's were producing pottery and several of their works were included and mention made of them in the accompanying catalogue.
The Fine Print:
***I'm a woman who loves to travel and have spent a ‘longish' and lucky lifetime exploring different parts of the world. Many of the items I list have at one time been used, worn and/or displayed in my home.
My aim is to be scrupulously accurate in the description of the articles I sell. Take the time to look closely at the photos. I regard them as key when ascertaining condition. Many of my items are older and, with age comes wrinkles (trust me I know!). Often it's the ‘flaws' that give an item its charm and character.
Payment is through ‘Direct Checkout/Etsy Payments' or Paypal.
Even though I limit my shipping destinations in the Etsy app to North America, I will consider shipping items worldwide. Please contact me for an accurate overseas shipping quote. Customs/import duties are always the buyer's responsibility.
I do not accept ‘buyer's remorse' returns but if the item you purchase is damaged en-route or differs in major respects from that which you thought you were purchasing, monies will be refunded. However, the item must be returned to me immediately (if only to cry over). Buyer pays return shipping.
To high quality keep costs down, I always try to use clean recycled packing materials. Also, mine has always been a smoke-free home.
