A Gate Mark appears as a raised “scar” or “slash” across the bottom of many different pieces of cast iron cookware.
Gate marked items typically do not have the manufacturer's name on them and due to poor record keeping and many records being destroyed by foundries burning down, it makes it impossible to identify what specific foundry made each piece.
The Gate Mark is a remnant of the casting process that was used in the 1800's.

Has movement of a flat surface, no cracks, rust, or repairs.
A few casting flaws are shown on the spout. These were likely caused by bubbles when the iron was poured into the mold.
