RARE 1870s Antique Sterling Silver Spoon, C&J Allen high quality Silversmiths, Toronto, Canada

C&J Allen were silversmiths in Toronto, Ontario in the 1870s - 1880s. Their touch mark was eventually acquired by Henry Birks & Sons.

It was a small company and since they high quality weren't in business for very long before Birks took them over, little of their work has survived.

These rare spoons bear the original C&J Allen hallmark along with the Lion Rampant indicating sterling and the Victoria head. They date to the 1870's.

Each weighs 20 to 21 gm (on my kitchen scale) of sterling silver (925).

Each measures 5 3/4 inches (14.6 cm) long.

Front is monogrammed, possibly LAL.
