This baby-doll is a sweet-pea! It has a lovely bisque porcelain head with beautiful hand-painted features. The slightly-open mouth showing two new little teeth (look closely!) shows high quality exceptional craftmanship. The head measures about 2 3/4 inches from the top to where it is attached to the body. The circumference of the head is almost 8 inches. There are no chips on the porcelain head, it is in excellent condition. The doll has blue glass eyes that are called 'googly-eyes' and they fully open and close. It has hand-painted eyelashes made with delicate single brush strokes.
The bisque doll head was made by the distinguished Armand Marseille doll manufacturer in Germany (1885 - 1930). The head is attached to a stuffed body. The stuffed body is not as old as the doll head. The doll arms are in an open-wide position and the hands are made of a composite material. Note there are fingers missing on each hand due to the age and the fragility of the composite material, as shown in the photos.
This doll is referred to as a Dream Baby. The back of the bisque head shows the A.M. mark and the imprint 'Germany' but I could not distinguish a model number. The length of the doll is about 10 inches, the length with the gown is about 15 inches. This baby doll is wearing a newer long white cotton slip with eyelet trim without sleeves. On the stuffed body is a cotton diaper held on with a pin and stockings on feet. A covered wire cradle is included with the doll for display.
Please view the photos closely as they are the best descriptors of the condition.
Thank you!
