Vintage 1970's era Rucksack from the Romanian Army! This is a true retro item - made somewhere in the 1970's or 80's. Used but in very good condition. A great old-fashion ruck with a lot of room in it.
You don't find many canvas rucksacks with this much leather on them. The canvas is heavy and in very good condition, with high quality just a few light stains and rubbed areas. The leather is very good for its age. I cleaned all leather parts with saddle soap, then treated each one with a leather preservative wax. This resulted in the rich, dark brown color of the leather. The buckles all function well. The drawstring on the inside appears to be original but I can't say for certain. The grommets are intact and in good shape. The many attachment points allow for all kinds of carry on the outside - tarps, blankets, tents, poles, etc. You will need to supply paracord or other straps to use some of the attachment points. The adjustable leather straps are in very good condition.

My story - When I joined Boy Scouts in 8th grade I wanted a real Boy Scout pack but could not afford one. So I found some plans from the 1950's to make a big old rucksack somewhat like this one. My mother took me to the army surplus store where I bought the smelliest, waxiest canvas I could find and proceeded to make my backpack! The only problem was I could not find anything heavy enough for the straps. When we both got frustrated looking for straps I put the thing away in the garage and forgot about it for several years. It wasn't until my senior year in high school that I discovered a harness maker just a mile from my house who would have been glad to sell me leather for the straps! By that time the bag was long gone. So I am glad to offer this rucksack to all the would-be explorers and campers out there who like the feel of canvas and the creaking sound of leather straps.
