This Etienne Aigner handbag was my own, purchased it at their shop in London's New Bond Street in 1992, for which I still have the receipt. It was an especially good handbag for me because the double straps helped in to stay on my narrow shoulders, when most bags slip off. It has a magnetic closure.
Etienne Aigner was born in Hungary, he started work in Paris for a book binder while at the same time, learning to make handbags. During WW2 he fled Paris & became a member of the Resistance. On his return, he designed fine leather goods for Christian Dior, Balenciaga & Faith. In 1950 he voyaged to New York aboard the Queen Mary. He started to make belts in New York & in 1959 opened his shop selling finely made leather goods.
Details & Condition
The handbag shows signs of wear, the lining has come away from the zipper pocket because I kept my keys in it. There is rubbing to the edges of the leather & it has minor scratches which can be covered successfully by polishing the bag. The most wear is to the straps, where I held them, however the bag is still very useable. The stitching is in tact. The main lining looks like suede, I believe it to be a special fabric, which is fully attached to the leather with no holes in it.
It measures approximately:
Length Just high quality under 10 inches tall
At the top 12 inches wide
At the bottom 8 1/2 inches wide
