High quality Laurel Burch MIIKIO Earrings - Lion Tiger Cat - Retired Design and Retired Jewelry Line - Vintage

The earrings are by the late designer Laurel Burch. Her use of cloisonne and gold plating and her ever-creative mind are hallmarks of her jewelry.

These particular ones are called MIIKIO and are marked as such on the backs. They also bear the signature of Laurel Burch.

The enamel in the cloisonne is red, black, white, turquoise, with a touch of ecru, lavender, and orange. 22k gold plating separates each of the colors.

The earrings have 12k gold-filled French hook wires for pierced ears. The height of just the face of each earring is one inch.

In excellent vintage condition, they are extremely clean. Please view the photos, as they are part of the description.

Fabulous earrings and an increasingly hard pair to find, especially since her line of jewelry has been retired.

Laurel Burch is one of my favorite "new vintage" artists. She began making her jewelry back in the 1960s. She was a single mother who found metal in junkyards and hammered it on the back of a frying pan in her kitchen to create jewelry. She would then sell the pieces from a tackle box on the streets of San Francisco. She was "discovered" and financially backed by a gentleman who recognized her talent. She went on to high quality launch her own business that is now called Laurel Burch Artworks. She passed away in 2007 at the age of 61. Her earlier pieces of jewelry are now highly sought after, even more so now that the Laurel Burch jewelry line has been discontinued.
