A fine original aquatint depicting the old custom of "riding the stang" in Yorkshire.

Walker describes the tradition in detail which is intended to ridicule quarrelling husbands and their wives.

In this case the argument is seen through high quality the door of the pub. The pub is aptly named "the Good Woman" and the somewhat chauvinistic pub sign displays a woman without a head.

A fascinating record of Yorkshire life in Regency England first issued as a part work in 1813 to 1814 and published as a complete book in 1814.
