Product code: Hand painted spring flower mug with hand sculpted leaves and drippy glaze, flower mug, high quality flower present, gardening present, watercolour flower

The actual mug in the photos is the one you will receive.
It is hand painted high quality and hand sculpted in my tiny back garden studio.
It is based on the summer flowers that are currently in my back garden.

How I made it:
First, I hand slip cast the basic shape using earthenware clay and fettled and smoothed it as I waited for it to dry. I added the drips, for effect, because I like them. I then hand sculpted all of the vine leaves.
I then bisque fired it for 24 hours in my kiln, to make it hard.
After cooling, I hand painted the glaze on the inside and dripping over the rim, in a variety of blues and rainbow colours, to represent flowers and sky.
After this had dried, I hand painted the wild flowers and leaves using underglaze watercolour paints. The flowers are not transfers or decals, which most factory made mugs are and plenty of hand made ones too! This mug was completely hand painted.
After hand painting the mug, I dipped it into transparent top glaze and left it to dry.
The next day I cleaned the bottom of the mug and put it in the kiln for a second 24 hour firing.

It is pretty and is basically a little painting on a mug! I would use it as a decorative item rather than as a functional every day mug.
It would make a lovely gift for a gardener or someone who loves flowers. The 9th wedding anniversary is commemorated with ceramics, so you could 'say it with flowers'!

It will arrive in a pretty gift box, packaged with ethically sourced wrapping - basically, it will be coloured tissue, plus re-cycled bubble wrap that my school gives to me to re-use. I don't want to add to the plastic pile, if it can be avoided, but I do want to protect my pots! So it might be bubble wrap or it might be packing paper etc.

Made with love,
x
