Art Deco Japanese Water Colour on Rice Paper. 1920/1930s.
Tabby Cat amongst Foliage and Pink Flowers.
A charming and beautiful piece of Japanese art... the foliage is in soft muted blacks, greys, blueish greys against a creamy background. The tabby cat has been painted with a myriad of delicate black to softest pale grey brushstrokes... a hint of blue to the expressive eyes, and around the mouth... the nose and mouth a pinkish coral. The muted pinkish heavy flowers are the only other colour.
The picture has a simple old, wooden frame. When I first acquired it around 2000 at a famous antiques fair back in the UK, I tried to find out more about the painting and took it out of the frame... hoping to perhaps find a signature or a date. Unfortunately not. The painting has been glued onto carton.

I've enjoyed and love(d) this painting... hopefully someone else will love it too.
