Amazing Piece of Art - Black and White Handmade Pottery Mug - Rare piece of reproduction high quality pottery made by artist craftsman, Prince Pierce. Albuquerque, New Mexico. Late 1960's to 1970's. Perfect Condition. The original artifact was excavated at Aztec National Monument in New Mexico. Culture: Mesa Verde Indian around 1250 A.D.
Pierce created replicas of Native American pottery found around New Mexico dating back to 1200 A.D.
Information found through the ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL states that the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology at the University of New Mexico showcased Pierce's work back in 1969. His pieces were made to be functional reproductions of prehistoric pottery. The museum displayed them along with the original prehistoric examples.
Based on information found in the Albuquerque Journal:
Pierce's pottery is prepared in a way that it can be used (high fired and covered with glazes), and can even be washed in a dishwasher. Mugs can be used for coffee cups and bowls can be used to serve salads, for example.
Please be aware that this information was dated back in 1969 and I do not recommend using this item in a dishwasher or microwave. Strongly recommend using as a decorative piece.
